Introduction

The rain makes people sit at home, and the sun lets them go outside and interact with other people. Keeping this statement in mind, someone might wonder, do introverts like rain and extroverts like the sun? That’s exactly the question we’ve answered in the article ahead. Let’s go!

What is the difference between an introverted and an extroverted personality?

Before deducing their environment preferences, let’s see what the words introvert and extrovert even mean and what makes them distinct from each other.

Starting at the start, the concepts of introversion and extroversion (or extraversion) were given by Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Carl Jung. Jung categorized people into these two types of personalities and gave each category, differing characteristics.

Introverts also think and strategize within their minds while making decisions. They work best independently and are more suited to jobs that match this quality.

Introverts don’t seek a lot of stimulating experiences or don’t find much enjoyment in the company of too many people. They like to spend more time with themselves than with other people and tend to be more introspective.

An introvert’s idea of a good day is one where they don’t have to interact with someone else and can spend their time with a good book or show that they like. Introverts also tend to value deeper emotional experiences rather than a bunch more enjoyment-based ones.

Introverts also think and strategize within their minds while making decisions. As a result of all this, introverts may seem sad or lonely, but it’s just that they enjoy their own company!

Extroverts, on the other hand, appear as bright, energetic people who love socializing. Extroverts are in their element at large social gatherings and are the kinds of people you would see often going to large sports arenas and hanging out with a large group of friends.

Extroverts love thinking out loud and they tend to collaborate and cooperate with other people easily. This quality makes them a great fit in large teams. Extroverts prefer being out of the house and among a bunch of people, even if they don’t know them!

An extrovert’s idea of a great day is one where they meet new people and have a good time. Extroverts are also more likely to seek novel experiences and try thrilling activities like bungee jumping or white water rafting!

What kind of personality likes rain and what personality likes the sun?

Do introverts like rain and extroverts like the sun? Well, from our description of the two, you can probably guess that it’s more likely for introverts to like rain and for extroverts to like the sun. People who love rain are called pluviophiles, whereas people who love the sun are called heliophiles.

It is much more likely that you will find an introvert to be a pluviophile rather than a heliophile. As we saw earlier, introverts like staying by themselves at home and what better excuse than some downpour for the introvert to stay put? Apart from this obvious reason, an introvert is more likely to be a pluviophile because of their similar characteristics.

Both pluviophiles and introverts tend to be more in touch with their innermost feelings. The rain gives them a chance to reflect and introspect in peace. The sounds and fragrance rain brings with it are calming for these often anxious individuals and they calm them down.

Meanwhile, extroverts are much more likely to be heliophiles than pluviophiles because the bright sun allows them to explore the world. Like heliophiles, extroverts love being outside and having fun under the sun.

The sun is more likely to give them energy and motivate them to take on a new challenge. The warm sunshine is all a heliophile extrovert needs to start their day with a smile!

Can an introvert like the sun and an extrovert like rain?

Yes! We’ve just mentioned some common characteristics between introverts-pluviophile’s and extroverts-heliophiles. This does not mean that every introvert will only like rain and every extrovert will love the sun. Each person is unique and with that uniqueness come unique likings and preferences.

The same person might one day like the rain but the next day gets tired of it. Someone might be an ambivert, i.e., a person with both introverted and extroverted qualities. Someone like that might like or even dislike both!

Conclusion

All in all, while everyone is different, we could roughly say that there is a higher probability of an extrovert being a heliophile (liking the sun) and an introvert being a pluviophile (liking rain). We hope that now you know the answer to “do introverts like rain and extroverts like the sun?” take care!

I live in the middle east, but I always aim to come to Europe during the transition season to hang out in the rain ☔ Since I remember, I have loved rainy days and found excuses to play outside, jumping through the puddles. As a grown-up, I found out I am a classic Pluviophile ;)
